  1. What are the Pre-requisites for CIPP Certifications? Introduction In an era also referred to as the digital era, where not just IT or Tech companies rely on or are data- driven but even non-tech companies are becoming data-driven entities. We are living in an era, where right from the internet to the economy is shifting itself to a new phase. A phase wherein, the data will be equivalent or be compared to the value of oil. Well, that’s true. Data will be the new oil that will boost every economy. With data being a new resource and creating value for many entities, it becomes essential to safeguard the flow of data. This has led to the rise in the demand for Data Privacy & Cybersecurity professionals, as they can help entities with respect to implementing security standards, analyzing the technology and how it uses the data, monitoring the lifecycle of data, along with ensuring that systems are secured and free from cyberattacks such as malware, spoofing, etc. To meet this growing demand in the Privacy & Cybersecurity space, one must have a profile that will stand out from other applicants. Since, employers are looking for credible profiles that showcase not just the interest of the candidate, or the experience, but the required skills that one must have as a Privacy professional. One such way for young graduates and even for experienced professionals who are willing to enter this domain could be through industry-recognized certifications. Through this blog, we will find out the relevance and importance of certifications such as the IAPP (International Association of Privacy Professionals) offered CIPP certifications also known as the Certified Information Privacy Professional certifications for students, young graduates, and experienced professionals. Why CIPP certifications? The CIPP certification(s) is a globally recognized training program dedicated to individuals willing or currently working in the Data Privacy domain. An individual with a CIPP credential has the requisite knowledge that will help an organization in strengthening their privacy ecosystem, compliance and risk mitigation strategies. This does increase the organization’s market value as its reputation increases, when the general public and the consumers/users come to notice how an organization is handling and dealing with their users’ data. The CIPP credential signifies that an individual has gained a fundamental understanding of privacy and data protection law and practise on a global scale, including jurisdictional laws, regulations, and enforcement models; fundamental privacy concepts and principals; rules and laws governing its treatment, storage, and transfer of data, as well as how to apply them.

  2. What are the pre-requisites? The CIPP certification has no particular requirements. The CIPP certification is open to everyone, including business owners, risk managers, IT experts, marketers, HR recruiters, and lawyers. An individual can simply obtain the CIPP certification(s) by clearing the certification exam. Professionals with the CIPP certification(s) could easily enter the privacy domain, and find lots of opportunities according to their certification and relevant experience. Candidates must register for the exam on the IAPP website in order to obtain any of the CIPP certification. Candidates get 150 minutes to complete the computer-based test, which consists of 90 questions. The exam is offered in the following languages- English, French, and German. In order to pass and qualify the certification exam, an individual must closely focus on their language. The certification is valid for two years, and retaining the certification after the validity requires a maintenance fee worth $250 dollars along with Privacy Continuing Education credits.
