WW + WZ search in the lepton plus jets: goals c) High transverse momentum Physics: WW e WZ search in the lepton plus jets decays and Higgs boson search. The Siena RU, in cooperation with Pisa, is focusing part of its activity on the study of the WW and WZ di-boson production at CDF, considering the leptons plus jets decay modes. These processes already observed in their purely leptonic decay only, have many analogies with the WH and ZH events (the golden processes for low mass Higgs at the TeVatron). For this reason the WW the WZ observation and the tuning of analysis techniques will be an opportunity for future advanced analysis to be applied in the Higgs boson search at CDF. At CDF, the lepton plus jets decays of WW e WZ have already been subject of analysis [32]. Our primary goal will be to update the previous analysis with higher statistics samples and to use advanced analysis techniques that have not yet been applied to these processes. This Item were proposed by P. Catastini and strongly supported by Siena DONE
Diboson analysis in lepton neutrino + jets: Why? Similar topology/final state to WH → lνb ̄b, the golden search mode for (mH < 135 GeV/c2) Similar challenges → S/B WH 1.2% WW/WZ 2.9% WW/WZ→ lνqq ̄ is a proving ground for Higgs search • Potential for new physics is manifest in: • Increased cross sections or changes in kinematics • TGC Golden mode to test the neutral MSSM Higgs φ is the channel Wφ[lνb ̄b] Technicolor predicts that the same signature would be shared by ρT→WπT Expected to show resonant peaks in both the dijet and W+2 jets mass spectra.
Diboson analysis in lepton neutrino + jets:Strategy We treat events from WW and WZ as indistinguishable signals, due to insufficient dijet mass resolution: 10 GeV difference in mass
