  2. System software • a system software is a software made to provide a “platform” to other software. • some examples of system software include: operating systems such as Ubuntu, macOS, and Microsoft Windows. • others include: games engines, sercive applications etc.

  3. Application software • an application can be any program, or group of programs, that is made for the person who is using the app. • there are 4 main types of system software: • Operating system • Device drives • Middleware • Utility software

  4. Other types of application software • one type of application is called a Peer to peer application. • these applications are also known as: Kazza, Skype, eMule etc. • another type of application is called and IOS framework. • some IOS framework applications you can find are: Cocoa Touch, WebKit, CloudKit etc.

  5. middleware • middle basically means that it allows information to cross between things like on a network. • the English dictionary says that middleware means “software that acts as a bridge between an operating system or database and applications, especially on a network”.

  6. Operating system • an operating system is basically the computers assistant when doing specific tasks. • The English dictionary sais that the definition of operating system means “the software that supports a computer’s basic functions, such as scheduling tasks, executing applications, and controlling peripherals”.

  7. Utility software • a Utility software is a system software made to help maintain, analyze, configure and a whole bunch of other stuff for the computer.

  8. Device driver • a device driver is a program that particularly controls a type of hardware device that is attached to a computer.

  9. Other types of application software • Some other examples of application software are: • PowerPoint • Outlook • Excel • Word • Google chrome • Firefox • Safari • Pandora (for music) • Skype • Slack (For team collaboration)

Why is system software important? • it consists of operating systems, system and network management, and information management. • the operating system controls the basic functions of a network or computer. • it is essentially a software program that enables hardware to communicate and operate with the computer software.

  11. What is system software? • System software refers to the files and programs that make up your computer’s operating system. These system files include: system services, libraries of functions, drivers for printers and other hardware, and other configuration files. Some of the programs that are part of the system software include: assemblers, compilers, file management tools, system utilities, and debuggers.
