Verification & Inter-laboratory Correlation Testing for the EMC Laboratory Kimball Williams Denso-DIAM U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
A2LA AUTOMOTIVE EMC LABORATORY ACCREDITATION PROGRAM (AEMCLAP) REQUIREMENTS February 2006 PROFICIENCY TESTING Refer to the proficiency testing requirements for each of the test technologies listed in the AEMCLRP requirements document and also to the A2LA Proficiency Testing Requirements for Accredited Testing and Calibration Laboratories. U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
Verification testing serves two fundamental purposes: • Regular function checks of: • Equipment, • Software & • Procedures. • Data integrity check by the use of: • Historical records comparisons U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
Historical Data Records • Comparisons between earlier data sets and the most recent can be used to determine: • the long term, historical stability of the test system, and • the continuing effectiveness of the training of test engineers or technicians. U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
Verification Requirements: • Documented Test Plan • All accredited test methods • Initial tests: 3 week period • Minimum Repetition Every 4 years • Minimum 2/year (each year) • Maintain historical records U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
Philosophy: • Why? • Verify test setup – Before testing begins. • How Often: • Equipment setup • Major test sequence • Which Tests: • All • Especially important for tests with ‘uncontrolled’ variables. • Records: Historical / Graphical / SPC • Analysis: Jumps or Trends U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
Practical Considerations: • Easy & Un-intrusive setup • Rapid Test: Minimum impact on overall test time. • “Analog” data gathered from test instruments. • (Alternative artifacts and tests may need to be developed) U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
Practical Considerations : • Rapid Results: Immediate comparison with previous results. • Historical Record: Tabular, Graphical (XBar & Range Charts) • Artifacts: (One for each test, or group of tests.) U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
Inter Laboratory Correlation NOT: Who got it ‘right’? How close are we to the Mean? U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
Requirements: • Which Tests Need: (AEMCLAP) • Which Tests do not require: (‘Calibrated’ equipment & ‘close’ setups.) • How Often: 2 years/4years • Records: Immediate & Current • Provider Requirements: (ISO Guide 43) U/M-Dearborn: 7/18/2006
