UAlbany GHG Inventory • What it is: • GHG stands for Greenhouse gas • An accounting of direct emissions due to University activities • Emphasis on energy and electricity use • What it is not: • Should not be equated with sustainability, which has a much broader scope • Does not account for many indirect or embedded emissions due to activities
UAlbany Green Scene • The UAlbany community emits over 86,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent! • That is equal to approximately 5.6 metric tons per person. • The majority of our emissions comes from heat and electricity use

UAlbany Green Scene • There are many initiatives during the year that help bring awareness and reduce our impact on the environment. • These include: • Fall energy campaign • Empire Commons bill program • Destination Green (Sustainable Transportation Day) • Campus sustainability Day • International Day of Climate Action (350.org) • National Teach In on Climate change • Recyclemania • Earth Day • Clean up day • Give and Go ( formerly known as Dump and Run)
UAlbany Green Scene • Take advantage of program money available through the Student Success grants! • RA’s can get involved by running the following programs • Conduct energy audits in rooms, using the Kill-A-Watt device • Running energy awareness sessions (informational brochures available) • Distributing compact florescent lights (CFL’s), bulbs and informational packets available • Holding awareness sessions about sustainable transportation offerings (materials available) • Educational programs about the benefits of recycling and precycling (waste reduction)
UAlbany Green Scene • You can also help by: • Getting students to attend planned events • Getting students who are interested in volunteering to join the council • Communicating programs • Being enthusiastic about the green scene
