Objective • SWBAT identify theme of identity in The House on Mango Street. • SWBAT write his or her own vignette about identity.
Homework- Please write this down • Finish “My Name” questions • Finish reading up to page 35 and prompt
Quick Notes • Identity: being who or what a person or thing is. • What makes up an identity?
Activity 20 Minutes • With a partner reread “My Name” • With a partner answer the critical thinking reading questions for “My Name” each person should have their own worksheet.
Brainstorm: INDIVIDUALLY! • For 5 minutes, write about your own name, how you got it, what others say about it, etc. • You can use your middle name (and/or last name) as well • We’ll share after you brainstorm!
Classwork- remainder of class • Read up to page 35 (read through “Darius and the Clouds”). • Take ideas from the “name” brainstorming activity and turn them into a well-developed vignette. Review your notes about the vignetteas well as the chapter “My Name” in order to do so. • DUE Monday!
