  2. Start Up • EASY! • Mission: Pro bono statistical help in international health • Session at annual meetings in 8/08 was impetus. • Volunteerism Special Interest Group already existed.

  3. Start Up Cont'd • In 10/08, put item in newsletter, 30 immediate volunteers. Newsletter items really important. • Had couple of projects before 10/08. We were operational • No Ass'n. objections to group • Great support from Ass'n. leadership

  4. Projects and Achievements • Easier to get volunteers than to get work • Many Projects in discussion stage. Some active ones: • Help plan a bottled water survey • Advising on the evaluation of a major MesoAmerican health initiative • Reviewing food for Peace grant proposals for 2 countries • Discussions with international non-governmental organizations

  5. Future Plans • Now working towards formal group within Association • Starting New Projects Group to look for more work • Gary Shapiro, g.shapiro4@verizon.net
