Announcements • Fire Company Breakfast on October 13 (no service that week) • Pizza and Movie October 18 • Fall Festival October 19 • Next Service at the Mount Oct 20 • Painting at South 7th St Christian Fellowship on October 26 • Bible Study on David starts Nov 2 at 7PM
Before and After • Peter in John 13:38 and Acts 2 • Phillip as one of the original disciples to Acts 8:26 • Stephen in Acts 6 • Saul in Acts 7 compared to Acts 9
The gifts explained 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 1 Cor 12:7-11 (NKJV)
Word of Wisdom • Solomon recognized its value • A supernatural insight that exceeds your own understanding and thought processes • Gives Spirit led answers to the difficult questions • Shows you how the dots of scripture and God’s plan connnect • It is for God’s glory, and NOT ours
Word of Knowledge • Supernatural ability to help others understand the Word and apply it to life • Helping others understand God’s ways in the more difficult times of life • Refers the speaking the Word in a way that applies the knowledge of the Bible to comfort and help others
Gift of Faith • Everyone has a measure of faith (Romans 12:3) • This is a supernatural application of faith • These are people who, by the Spirit of God, see things through eyes of faith • In the hardest situations, they will find an optimism and hope in knowing God will use it for good
Gift of Healing • Healing is not always a physical thing, it can be mental or spiritual as well • Paul saw a man who had the faith to be healed (Acts 14:9-10) • God heals in an instant, can use physicians, or can allow us to bear an illness for some greater lesson. Knowing which, and praying accordingly is a gift of God
Gift of Miracles • God’s done some wild stuff in the Word • Shut a lions mouth to protect Daniel • Moses telling the Red Sea to part • Peter being enables to walk on water • Rack, Shack, and Benny not burning in the fire • Casting out demons in the name of Jesus • Jesus feeding 5000 and 4000 with a few loaves of bread and a couple fish
Gift of Prophecy • Singled out by Paul as the gift to be desired • God will give a Word, a message, or direction to a saint through another saint • The word of a prophet MUST always be compared to the Word of God • Typically comes during prayer, should be written down if possible, and is for God’s glory, not to the glory of the one who give it
Gift of discerning spirits • Notice the small “s” • 3 types – Angelic, Demonic, and Human • Being able to tell the difference between things that glorify God and things that tear down God • Your job is to see what it is, and respond appropriately in prayer
Different kinds of tongues • Different than a prayer language. This one is plural • Being able to speak in an unknown language that is actually a different, foreign language (Acts 2:5)
Interpretation of tongues • Hearing an unknown language, supernaturally knowing what is being said, and being urged to declare it in English • Hearing a foreign language clearly and understanding it with perfect clarity
Back to the start: • Note the very next sections of scripture • Given for the profit of all • Distributing to each one as He sees fit • They bring glory to God, not you • They encourage the saints • They wake up the unbeliever in ways that they know it is God, no you. • They are selfless, and love centered
