The peacock is venerated as the vehicle of God Muruga Muruga tests his devotees, they must go TOkovil for 10 days and must sing devotional songs such as ‘vel vel muruga,vetri vel muruga’.
PEOPLE MUST OFFER PRAYERS BEFORE PROCEEDING TOWARDS THE ‘KOVIL’.
Piercing of tongue and body with needles is done to please ‘ lord muruga’.
PEOPLE ARE THROWING WATER ON DEVOTEES’ FEET SO AS TO CALM THE PAIN.
Devotees carry jugs of milk on their way to the Kovil as a penance of purity WOMEN ARE HOLDING MILK ON THEIR HEAD TO GO TO KOVIL.
GIRLS ARE PLAYING ‘KOLATTAM’ AND WILL MOVETO THE KOVIL ALONG WITH THE DEVOTEES. Devotional songs being chanted by disciples
WHEN THE PROCESSION REACHES THE TEMPLE THE MAIN RITUAL IS TO OFFER TWO POTS OF MILK TO LORD MURUGA. IN THE EVENING DEVOTEES INVITE FRIENDS, RELATIVES FOR A DINNER OFFERED WITH MUCH LOVE.
