  1. What is Change Data Capture (CDC) in Databases In the realm of databases, change data capture (CDC) is a set of software design patterns that are used to track and determine data that has been changed so that action can be taken on it. CDC is also a means to data integration that is founded on capture, delivery, and identification of the changes made to sources of enterprise data.

  2. System developers can set up CDC mechanisms in several ways, from any one or a combination of system layers starting from application logic to physical storage. Oracle change data capture solutions, in particular, occur most often in data-warehouse environments. It is because capturing and preserving the state of data across time is one of the core functions of a data warehouse. CDC though can be utilized in any database or data repository system.

  3. There are several ways that system developers can set up CDC mechanisms. In the most simplified form in the CDC context, one computer system has data believed to have changed from what there was in the past and a second computer system has to take action based on that changed data. The former is the source system and the latter is the target system. It is possible though that the source and the target systems are the same physically but that would not change the pattern logically. Hence, multiple CDC solutions can co-exist in the same system.
