  1. SAP Considerations for Test Data Management SAP is an enterprise resource planning software developed by German company SAP SE. the latest package was released in 2006 and the Enhancement Package in 2016.  SAP ERP software incorporates the primary and key functions of any enterprise. These include Operations, Logistics, Quality Management, Financials and Financial Supply Chain Management, Human Capital Management, Environment, health and Safety, and Real-Estate Management. Hence SAP software today has become an integral part of any business.

  2. The question that arises now is with SAP being a part of every operational aspect and with so many tools available in the market, how to choose the test data management (TDM) solution that will exactly match your needs. There is no fixed “one-hat-fits-all” answer to this issue especially as there will be a need to test end-to-end processes and systems like SAP that are based on both typical Windows-based UIs and the traditional web-based ones.

  3. SAP enterprise sites are interrelated and often highly complex. To get good SAP test data, it must be correlated across tests and systems. It has to be ensured that the data is relevant to the context of the business processes being executed such as standard orders, out-of-stock orders, and positive or negative test. Most test data management tools are not as effective and generate data based on a single set of functional requirements and do not have the ability to associate data across a range of end-to-end business process test.

  4. Test Data Management is definitely not simple and easy. But if you were to evaluate the ability of a TDM solution to support an end-to-end business process, it basically boils down to two factors. # The first is that the data should be correlated across the full end-to-end business process. This business process should have the context of the job incorporated in it. That might be anything connected to any operational aspects like standard order, out of stock orders or positive or negative test.

  5. For example, a successful standard order denotes that the product exists physically in the warehouse or elsewhere, is shown in stocks, and has the right price tagged to it when the test is run. This is against an out-of-stock order where the product has to exist but the quantity in stock has to be a specific value.  # The second is that the SAP test data views need to be generated from the point of view of the system being tested. The data should be in the right format and must also be validated with the system under test during the test. The dependency of the test data on the data in the supporting system must be accounted for. Many other test tools lack on this score and take a very restricted view of test case data.  Some test case data represents only a single vertical transaction. Data without context in most cases is of no value.
