Background • NMC Standard 16 – Ongoing record of Achievement (NMC 2009) • Revalidation 2011 • Issue: replace bulky paper placement record • Facilitate student learning • Improve link between university and placement • Create a robust student assessment record
Improving my knowledge and understanding and consolidating my learning
Linking my learning to my experiences to demonstrate wider reading and increased knowledge being used in clinical practice
Organising my placement, keeping a permanent record, ability for me and others to review my records
Mentors using Pebblepad Positives • Enables students to get regular feedback on their progress, and look back at progress over all placements. • Mentors can view student progress throughout all placements. • Mentors seem to provide more constructive feedback on Pebblepad. • Allows for three way communication between student, mentor and university tutor during placement. • Other staff can access student portfolios and add comments.
Mentors using Pebblepad Negatives • Initial reluctance from mentors to use Pebblepad. • New software/new processes– requires appropriate training. • Can be time-consuming to access Pebblepad during busy shifts. • Access to computers on placement can be an issue.
Online record of achievement: • Can improve links between practice and university • Can facilitate student learning • Can make student assessment more robust and transparent. • Next steps: • Ongoing evaluation and redesign to ensure fitness for purpose
