A. Les infinitifs (Infinitives) • An infinitive is… the name of a verb. • It is the verb in its most basic form. It is the form that you will see in a French dictionary. No specific person is doing the action. • Most of the time, in French, infinitives end in -r or -re. • In English, we say “to ___.” For example… “to study “ → étudier “to dance “ → danser “to swim “ → nager
B. Expressing likes, dislikes and preferences about activities… • Here, you will combine one of the following expressions with the infinitive of your choice to express things you like, prefer or don’t like to do.
To ask if someone likes an activity… • 1. Tuaimes…? – Do you like…? Ex. – Tuaimesétudier? Tuaimesvoyager?
To tell what you like to do… • 2. J’aime… - I like… Ex. – J’aimedanser. J’aimechanter. • 3. J’aimebien… - I really like… Ex. - J’aimebienregarder la télé. • 4. J’adore… - I adore… (I love…) Ex. - J’adoreécouter la musique.
To tell what you don’t like to do… • 5. Je n’aime pas… - I don’t like… Ex. – Je n’aime pasmanger les escargots. • 6. Je déteste… - I hate… Ex. – Je détestetéléphoner!
