Conditions Above • The temperature above the ice is far below the freezing point. • Wind makes it even colder, but does nothing to affect the water.
Conditions Below • Temperature below the ice won’t go below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. • Light often doesn’t make it far past the ice. • There is almost no current, unless the ice is covering something massive.
Photosynthesis • When people try to look through the ice many see pitch black. • Algae filters the light that shines through the ice and continues photosynthesis.
Oxygen Content • There is much oxygen in the water beneath the ice. • Cold water holds far more gases than warmer waters.
Creatures Survive • A desolate surface doesn’t indicate that everything is gone. • Live continues as normal beneath the surface.
Creatures Beneath • Water beneath the ice holds amazing wonders. • Not only does the water hold the regular creatures, but some creatures can exist here.
Beauty Beneath • The ice can hold many incredible views.
