  14. How will we research our users?

  15. Past solutions

  16. Google Now • Automatically learns commute route and times • Automatic traffic notifications before/during/after commute Google Now. http://www.google.com/landing/now/

  17. NextBus Useful for public transit users, NextBus polls for the next arrivals for various transit systems across the US, including the University of Maryland NextBus. http://www.nextbus.com/

  18. What is CommuteARoute, and how is it different?

  19. It uses a wide variety of data sources to better inform users of: Transit Accidents, Construction, Delays Crime and Safety Info Washington D.C. Metro Map, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/wrctraffic/metromap/front.html Madrid, Aaron: "Road Construction Ahead…and Behind…and Over There…", http://www.thinklafayette.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/road-construction2.jpg Thompson, Isaiah: Crime Drop Varies By Neighborhood (2013), http://axisphilly.org/news/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/NBcrime-800x555.jpg

  20. And users can even inform other users!

  21. We help the user log how efficient their commute is. Not only would the system compute average times of certain routes, but we would also allow for the user to log the costs of fuel and transit fares.

  22. And we suggest how to lower commuting costs or travel time! With the user's commute data, we can find options that could make their commute cheaper or faster. For instance, they might be able to take bus/rail, carpool, taxi, or in some cases walk or bike.
