  8. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. -John 1:18 NKJV “…in closest relationship with the Father” NIV

  9. Jesus speaks of the relationship He had with the Father before He came to earth. -John 17:20-26

  10. …God is love. -1 John 4:8

  11. Love cannot exist in isolation.

  12.  Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. -1 Corinthians 13:4-7

  13. So God has always been the source of other-other-centered love. Which implies that there had to be others for Him to love. Even before the creation of angels, and eventually of man. God Himself is a family of three co-eternal persons.

  14. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” -Genesis 1:26

  15. So God made man in His image, and His image, in this creation, includes family.

  16. This is why it’s not good for man to be alone. It deprives man of the opportunity to enter into the object lesson that marriage and parenthood provide in other-centered love.

  17. “I’m convinced that at the heart of this complex study lies a simple truth: God is love. This is the message of God’s everlasting covenant: God loves people. The human race is sick and will die eternally if they do not get healed…” -In Granite or Ingrained, Skip MacCarty

  18. “God offers to heal them and appeals for them to devote themselves to Him and trust Him to do so. The old and new covenants progressively express God’s everlasting love, adapted to the universal needs of the human race.” -In Granite or Ingrained, Skip MacCarty

  19. “When God’s love is responded to with faith, it produces a new covenant experience, which results in loving obedience. But if God is responded to with legalistic obedience (or with no obedience), it results in an old covenant experience. That’s the significance of the old and new covenants in summary.” -In Granite or Ingrained, Skip MacCarty

  20. “But in God’s covenant with humankind, God promises His wholehearted, whole-souled commitment, even to the death if need be, for human welfare, and He requires that same wholehearted devotion from humanity in return (Rev 12:11)…” -In Granite or Ingrained, Skip MacCarty

  21. “That is indeed the definition and nature of God’s covenant with human beings. “The basic idea of the covenant is that of relationship with God,” a relationship characterized by love, trust, and wholehearted commitment.” -In Granite or Ingrained, Skip MacCarty

  22. “This is perhaps why Jesus identities the so-called “golden rule” as the essence of the law and the prophets (Matt 7:12) and taught that love to God and neighbor was the great law on which “all the law and the prophets hang” (Matt 22:36-40)…” -In Granite or Ingrained, Skip MacCarty

  23. “The “golden rule” (Matt 7:12) plumbs the depths of God’s commitment inwardly within the Trinity and outwardly to His entire creation. Herein lies the essence of God’s covenant: it’s an everlasting covenant of love.” -In Granite or Ingrained, Skip MacCarty

  24. God’s covenant invitation is an invitation into the way that God does life. Other centered, fully devoted, reciprocal love. It’s how the kingdom operates.

  25. The moral law is really just a reflection of how other centered love plays out in a vertical relationship with God and a horizontal relationship with our fellow man. It’s what living the kingdom principle looks like.

  26. When the Bible says that God writes His law in our hearts and in our minds in the new covenant, what’s really happening is that God is removing our selfish nature and imparting to us His character of unselfish, other-centered love.

  27. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. -Ezekiel 36:25-27

  28. Walking in this law of love is a logical response to first receiving a new heart and the power of the Holy Spirit to impart Christ’s perfect life.

  29. Sin is the transgression of the law, we’re told, but we’re also told that sin at its very base level is selfishness.

  30. On the morning of October 23, 1879, about two o’clock, the Spirit of the Lord rested upon me, and I beheld scenes in the coming judgment. Language fails me in which to give an adequate description of the things which passed before me and of the effect they had upon my mind.  -Testimonies for the Church Volume 4 384.1

  31. The great day of the execution of God’s judgment seemed to have come. Ten thousand times ten thousand were assembled before a large throne, upon which was seated a person of majestic appearance. Several books were before Him, and upon the covers of each was written in letters of gold, which seemed like a burning flame of fire: “Ledger of Heaven.” One of these books, containing the names of those who claim to believe the truth, was then opened. -Testimonies for the Church Volume 4 384.2

  32. Immediately I lost sight of the countless millions about the throne, and only those who were professedly children of the light and of the truth engaged my attention. As these persons were named, one by one, and their good deeds mentioned, their countenances would light up with a holy joy that was reflected in every direction. But this did not seem to rest upon my mind with the greatest force.  -Testimonies for the Church Volume 4 384.2

  33. Another book was opened, wherein were recorded the sins of those who profess the truth. Under the general heading of selfishness came every other sin. There were also headings over every column, and underneath these, opposite each name, were recorded, in their respective columns, the lesser sins.  -Testimonies for the Church Volume 4 384.3

  34. “Christ is to receive supreme love from the being He has created. And He requires also that man shall cherish a sacred regard for his fellow beings. Every soul saved will be saved through love, which begins with God… -1 Selected Messages 115.1

  35. “True conversion is a change from selfishness to sanctified affection for God and for one another. Will Seventh-day Adventists now make a thorough reformation, that their sin-stained souls may be cleansed from the leprosy of selfishness?” -1 Selected Messages 115.1

  36.  The law that none “liveth to himself” Satan was determined to oppose. He desired to live for self. It was this that incited rebellion in heaven, and it was man’s acceptance of this principle that brought sin on earth.” -Testimonies for the Church Volume 6 236

  37. “Unselfishness, the principle of God’s kingdom, is the principle that Satan hates; its very existence he denies. From the beginning of the great controversy Satan has endeavored to prove God’s principles of action to be selfish, and he deals in the same way with all who serve God. To disprove Satan’s claim is the work of Christ and of all who bear His name. – Education 154.3

  38. It was to give in His own life an illustration of unselfishness that Jesus came in the form of humanity. And all who accept this principle are to be workers together with Him in demonstrating it in practical life. –Education 154.4

  39. “At the cross of Calvary, love and selfishness stood face to face. Here was their crowning manifestation.” -Desire of Ages 57.2

  40. But turning from all lesser representations, we behold God in Jesus. Looking unto Jesus we see that it is the glory of our God to give. “I do nothing of Myself,” said Christ; “the living Father hath sent Me, and I live by the Father.” “I seek not Mine own glory,” but the glory of Him that sent Me. John 8:28; 6:57; 8:50; 7:18. In these words is set forth the great principle which is the law of life for the universe. All things Christ received from God, but He took to give. -Desire of Ages 21.2

  41. So in the heavenly courts, in His ministry for all created beings: through the beloved Son, the Father’s life flows out to all; through the Son it returns, in praise and joyous service, a tide of love, to the great Source of all. And thus through Christ the circuit of beneficence is complete, representing the character of the great Giver, the law of life. -Desire of Ages 21.2

  42. In heaven itself this law was broken. Sin originated in self-seeking. Lucifer, the covering cherub, desired to be first in heaven. He sought to gain control of heavenly beings, to draw them away from their Creator, and to win their homage to himself. Therefore he misrepresented God, attributing to Him the desire for self-exaltation. With his own evil characteristics he sought to invest the loving Creator. Thus he deceived angels. Thus he deceived men. -Desire of Ages 21.3

  43. He led them to doubt the word of God, and to distrust His goodness. Because God is a God of justice and terrible majesty, Satan caused them to look upon Him as severe and unforgiving. Thus he drew men to join him in rebellion against God, and the night of woe settled down upon the world. -Desire of Ages 21.3

  44. The earth was dark through misapprehension of God. That the gloomy shadows might be lightened, that the world might be brought back to God, Satan’s deceptive power was to be broken. This could not be done by force. The exercise of force is contrary to the principles of God’s government; He desires only the service of love; and love cannot be commanded; it cannot be won by force or authority. Only by love is love awakened. -Desire of Ages 22.1

  45. To know God is to love Him; His character must be manifested in contrast to the character of Satan. This work only one Being in all the universe could do. Only He who knew the height and depth of the love of God could make it known. Upon the world’s dark night the Sun of Righteousness must rise, “with healing in His wings.” Malachi 4:2. -Desire of Ages 22.1

  46. I believe the call of the Last Generation is in harmony with the call of Christ. To reveal God’s perfect character of unselfishness and other-centered love. This display cannot be ignored, and only brings greater power to the message that they preach.

  47. This was God’s intention all along when inviting Adam, Noah, Abraham, and the nation of Israel into covenant with Himself. To be His representatives to the world, and to live out this kingdom principle.

  48. None of them fulfilled the coveneant as was required, and so God covenanted to send Jesus “in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:3-4).
