WYD Prayer Friend and Lord Jesus Christ,How great You are!With Your words and Works You have revealed to usWho God is, Your Father and our Father,and Who You are: our Savior.You call us to be with You.We wish to follow You wherever You go.We thank You for Your Incarnation.You are the Eternal Son of God,but You humbled Yourself and became man.We thank You for Your Death and Resurrection.You obeyed the Father's will to the extremeand for this reason You are the Lord of all persons and things.We thank You for having remained amongst usin the Eucharist.Your Presence, Your Sacrifice, Your BanquetInvite us to remain always united to You.

You Call us to work with You.We wish to go wherever You send us:to announce Your name, to heal in Your Name,to bring all of our brothers to You.Grant us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten and strengthen us.The Virgin Mary, the Mother You gave us on the cross,always encourages us to do what You say.You are our Life. May our thoughts,our love and our actionsalways be rooted in You!You are our Rock. May our faith in Youalways be the solid foundationof our life!We pray for Pope Benedict XVI,for the Bishops and for all those whoare preparing the next World Youth Dayin Madrid.We pray for our family and friendsand especially forall the young people who will get to know youin this encounter, thanks to the firm and joyfultestimony of the faith. Amen.

  5. Our program • Meals: breakfast and dinner • We will: • Sight-see • Share daily Mass together • Time for fun and relaxation • Small groups • Sharing and reflecting • Practicality – for travel and safety

Our journey • Departing Saturday 6th August: • Ballarat & Melbourne will fly out of Tullamarine at 3:00pm on Thai Airways TG46, flying via Bangkok & Rome • Brisbane, Canberra & Sydney will fly out of Sydney at 3:50pm on Qantas QF5, flying via Singapore & Helsinki • Arriving Sunday 7th August in Warsaw, Poland

  7. Our itinerary: Poland • Poland: former communist country with a rich and difficult history • Its unique character reflects its position at the meeting point of Western and Eastern Europe • Our journey begins with 1 night in capital city Warsaw

  8. 2 nights in Krakow • 2nd largest city in Poland, dating back to 7th century • Divine Mercy shrine • Bishop’s Palace • Wadowice • Small Polish town, +1000 years old • Birthplace of Karol Wojtyla, Pope JP II

  9. Auschwitz • Largest of the German concentration camps in World War II • Camp where St. Maximilien Kolbe and St. Edith Stein were interred and killed

  10. 2 nights in Zakopane • An opportunity for us to relax and prepare for the journey ahead in Poland’s premier mountain destination • A place of beauty and serenity that Karol Wojtyla loved

  11. Italy • 3 nights in Rome • The eternal city and the heart of the Church • A city in which so many saints died for their faith in the early years of Christianity • Home to the tomb of John Paul II

  13. Avila • Medieval walled city • Home to St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross • 1 night in Salamanca • UNESCO World Heritage site • Famous for its beautiful architecture

  14. Portugal • 3 nights in Fatima • Pilgrimage site built at the location of the apparitions of Mary to three young children in 1917 • Visited by millions of people every year • An opportunity to rest and reflect before returning to Australia

  16. WYD: Why? “Even though you are young, the time for action is now! It is time to let your light shine! Remember, Christ is calling you; the Church needs you; the Pope believes in you, and he expects great things of you!” John Paul II

  17. The goal of WYD • A moving and sanctifying pilgrimage in faith • An experience of the power of the Holy Spirit • Rediscovering the centrality of the Word and Sacrament • Enabling pilgrims to be witnesses to Christ

  19. Madrid’s theme • What does it mean to ‘be planted’ in Christ? • How can we be ‘built up’ as Christians? • Through our pilgrimage and experiences, we can ask the Lord to strengthen – firm – our faith

  20. Youth Festival & Catechesis • Theatre, live music, interactive experiences, art & more, rooted in faith and shared with other pilgrims from all over the world • The opportunity to join thousands of others for catechesis – taught by a different Bishop each day – as well as praise and Mass

  22. Madrid during WYD • Spain’s capital and largest city will be open for pilgrims, with free access to the many world-renowned galleries, museums and cultural centres

Costs • Your pilgrimage payment includes: • Airfares and prepaid airport taxes • Bus travel as required • Accommodation • Breakfasts and dinners daily on touring programme • Sightseeing excursions with entrance fees and local guides as listed • Services of a local multi-lingual escort for touring programme • Tips and gratuities for drivers and guides on tour • During WYD: • Simple breakfast, lunches and dinners daily • Public transportation pass during WYD week • Free entrance to all WYD cultural activities • WYD pilgrim's backpack with Madrid guidebook and feature inclusions • You will need to cover: • Lunches (except during WYD) • Souvenirs & personal shopping (including toiletries etc)

  27. Final Prayer May the Lord Jesus reveal Himself to each one of us, may He give us the strength to go out and profess that we are Christian, may He will show us that He alone can fill our hearts. May we accept His freedom and embrace His truth, and be messengers of the certainty that we have been truly liberated through the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. May this be our new experience, the powerful experience, that will generate, through us, a more just society and a better world. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
