Polymorphic Effects Processor Team Audio Matt King Chris Santoro
Most musicians take way too many pedals to gigs. We will design a programmable effects box that will allow the musician greater flexibility and less baggage. The Problem
Goals • CD Quality Audio • Real Time Processing • Bitchin’ Effects • User Selectable/Programmable via USB/PC interface
Technical ObjectivesStage 1 Hardware • DSP from Analog Devices: ADSP-21261 • Codec from Analog Devices: AD1836 • 2 inputs: RCA and ¼” TRS • 3 outputs: RCA, ¼” TRS, and 3.5 mm Headphone Jack • Memory for temporary sample storage
Technical ObjectivesStage 2 Software • Software is composed of two major parts • Loader/OS • Effects/Main Program • Main Program -> three tasks • Receive Samples • Process Samples • Transmit Samples
Technical ObjectivesStage 3Packaging • Make the device attractive • Make the device robust • External buttons for user control • LCD for interface feedback • Built in window • Illuminated circuitry
Competition • Similar devices cost $100-$200 on average • Some are much higher • None are truly programmable • Some devices only produce a single effect • The “Butt Probe” retails for $549…
Estimated Cost • Our initial estimate for parts: little over $100. • Analog Devices has donated a development board that we will use as a model as well as a software development platform.
