  2. Family History Assignment • Complete an online family tree up to your 8 great-grandparents • Submit a screenshot of your online tree • Write a one page synopsis describing your experiences working on your family tree.

  3. FamilySearch Account • Refer to the prior presentation for instructions on creating an account on FamilySearch.org • After you create your account, complete your family tree online – up to your 8 great-grandparents.

  4. Building Your Tree • You may find it helpful to gather details on paper first • You can find a form at http://www.byub.org/ancestors/charts/pdf/pedigree.pdf. You can fill it in online, or print it and fill it out. • Please note: Women should be entered with their maiden names (e.g. Michelle L. Robinson instead of Michelle L. Obama). If maiden name is unknown, leave blank.

  5. Go to: https://familysearch.org/campaign/myfamily to start building your tree online. They system will guide you through the process for up to your great-grandparents.

  6. Viewing Your Tree • After you finish entering your family members, you will then go to view your family tree.

  7. Viewing Your Tree (cont’d) • When you go to your tree, change the view to “Portrait” • The option to change views is in the top left corner of the page

  9. Synopsis • Write a 1-page synopsis describing the feelings and impressions you had while working on your family tree. • What did you learn? • What were your challenges? • From what did you benefit the most? • How would you relate this project to Africana Studies?
