  1. ULMA / Web Imaging Systems lifecycle management model(LCM)March 2004

  2. Complete lifecycle management Management of plant’s installed base of ULMA / WIS Optimum performance curve Active • sales and manufacturing phase Classic • full product support phase Limited • limited product support phase Obsolete • no viable service market or technology remains Performance Management of various ULMA / WIS generations Active Classic Limited Obsolete

  3. Lifecycle phases • Active(sales and manufacturing phase) • Classic(full product support phase) • Limited(limited product support phase) • Obsolete(no viable service market or technology remains) Lifecycle announcement Lifecycle announcement Lifecycle announcement Active Classic Limited Obsolete Releasedfor sale Volume production ends Full product support ends Limited product support ends Yearly lifecycle status review

  4. Released for sale Active phase of lifecycle • Product has been released for sale • Continuing search for functional enhancements • Support upgrade from older products (limited & obsolete) to active version • Full product support and lifecycle services available: • Installation & commissioning • Support & remote service • Maintenance & field service • Training & eLearning • Spare parts & repair • Optimization Volume production ends Active Lifecycle announcement

  5. Classic phase of lifecycle • Product is no longer sold by factory • Price may increase due to lower volume, increased vendor component costs, etc. • Full product support and lifecycle services available: • Training & eLearning • Spare parts & repair • Optimization • Support & remote service • Maintenance & field service • Migration & retrofits Full product support ends Classic Yearly lifecycle status review Lifecycle announcement

  6. Increased use of refurbished material and repair Recommended replacement with active product (recycling available where permitted) Limited product support and lifecycle services available: Limited phase of lifecycle • Support & remote service • Maintenance & field service • Optimization • Spare parts & repair • Migration & retrofits • Replacement & recycling Limited product support ends Limited Yearly lifecycle status review Lifecycle announcement

  7. Obsolete phase of lifecycle • Obsolete phase occurs when: • Product support is no longer possible within reasonable cost • ABB is no longer capable of supporting the product technically • Old technology is no longer available • Many ABB products have been and continue to be supported for over 20 years • Availability of support, spare parts, repair & field services can not be guaranteed: • Sale of spare parts is limited to available inventory, availability of repair services are contingent on components • Maintenance & field service if competent service engineers available • Replacement & recycling services are available Obsolete

  8. Active Classic Limited Obsolete Summary of lifecycle phases • Product, parts and related lifecycle services have been released for sale • Migration from limited and obsolete phases to active phase is supported • Product is not manufactured at factory any longer • Full range of lifecycle services and parts are available • Limited product support and lifecycle services are available • It is recommended to replace with active product • Recycling exists where available • Availability of product support can not be guaranteed within reasonable cost or technically • Many ABB products have been and continue to be supported for over 20 years

  9. Benefits ULMA / WIS lifecycle management • Ensures spare part and competence availability throughout the entire lifecycle • Enables efficient product support & maintenance for improved reliability and optimum accuracy of the system • Adds functionality and value to customer by following the upgrade path • Provides smooth transition path to new technology in the end of lifecycle Maximizes value of WIS systems and maintenance investments
