  4. Exercise: Emotions and Sensory Details (p.16) (Copy) Choose 3 of the 6 words listed below. Write down the words, then write down things that happen to you physically when you experience this emotion. Angry Hungry Nervous Fearful Impatient Bored **Example: Excited: heart races, sweat, headaches, knee taps, hard to be quiet

  5. Notes: Inner Thoughts(Copy all notes, but not examples) 9/12/12

  6. Inner thoughts are NOT: Dialogue No quotation marks used Not lines that people said Summary Events that occurred

  7. What do they add my vignette? Let’s reader inside your head Creates a fuller picture of experience you had Helps you practice and understand sensory details

  8. How do I do that? Sensory Details Imagery Figurative Language: Similes, Metaphors Reflect on whats happening and how you are processing the moment inside your head

  9. Examples: Sensory Details + Figurative Language Instead of: I was mad because she said that. My blood began to boil, and I could feel my heart pounding with rage. Instead of: I was hungry. My stomachs began to rumble like a volcano; I could already feel the acids eating away at my stomach lining. Instead of: It made me happy to hear someone say that. I blushed and felt the warmth of the redness displayed on my face.

  10. Examples: Reflecting I couldn’t believe he left me. Did that mean he never cared? Did it mean he cared too much? At this point, I had to do everything I could to focus on driving. The first punch stunned me. I couldn’t believe some one else’s fist was making contact with my delicate eye. Immediately, I was blinded with pain, but had no time to think about stopping.
