  14. 1. Referendum • Process by which a legislative measure is referred to voters for approval or rejection • Examples: Red Light Cameras; Should Missouri go along with National Health Insurance?

  15. 2. Recall • Petition procedure by which voters may remove elected officials from office • Missouri does not have this power currently (as of 2010) for state officials but local officials can be recalled. • Example: CALIFORNIA & ARNOLD SCHWARTZENEGGER + Anne Purzner and Overland

Initiative • A process where a certain number of qualified voters sign petitions in favor of a proposal -REQUIREMENTS? • Missouri Examples • Loss Limit drop • Conceal and Carry issue -1999: MO voters voted against initiative BUT… -2003: MO Legislature passed it anyway- Gov Vetoed -General Assembly overrode veto; now law of MO
