Proposal Submission • November 2010 submission of the proposal • December 2010 submission was approved • Pilot of project from February 2011 to September 2011
Implementation Stage • 21 to 23 February 2011 online training of the Project Team by EIFL project coordinator Simon Ball • 15 March 2011 training of UZ staff by the Project Team • 20 March to June 2011 Awareness campaign to Dean of students, Coordinator DRC, and students training on use of access tools
Implementation Stage Cont’ • June to 26 August 2011 DRC Technician and the Team agreed on training new students during orientation week • Identification of PCs which could be used to access the tools in the Main Library • Identification of students with visual impairment for the new academic year • 29 August to 5 September 2011 orientation for first year students and training of use of the access tools
Implementation Stage Cont’ • Installation of the access tools at the DRC computer Laboratory • Training of use of tools to DRC staff to assist students with visual disability • Training of students with visual disability on the use of access tools
Marketing of Disability Tools Locally • Efforts were made to publicize the project to the University Community • A champion from DRC was identified in MrChinyoka • Identification of visually impaired done through students’ own network • By 20 April 2011 there were twenty students identified

Marketing at International Level • Exhibited at United Nations and Africa Public Service Day Commemorations, 20 to 23 June 2011 • Viewed by many exhibitors and visitors as a unique tool in enhancing service delivery • Organizations which showed interest were Kenya Global Development Learning Center, Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology and Tanzania’s Ministry of Information and Culture
Disability Tools and the future • Nationwide distribution and training of the disability access tools • Exploring opportunities for the development of such tools in indigenous languages • Capacitating other Resource Centresin the provision of disability tools • Forging synergies for sustainable use of disability tools in promoting access to digital information.
