Tantramar 2040 : Une initiative conjointe Dirigée par EOS Éco-énergie, en association avec les collectivités participantes Inspirée par la conférence Adaptation & Actions organisée à l’université Mount Allison (2009) Financée par le Fonds en fiducie pour l’Environnement et le Secrétariat rural Le comité directeur de Tantramar 2040 comprend : les villages de Port Elgin, Dorchester et Memramcook, la Ville de Sackville, Fort Folly First Nation, la chambre de commerce locale, Entreprise Sud-Est, la Commission du district d’aménagement de Tantramar, la Commission d’aménagement Beaubassin et EOS 3 Your Environmental Trust Fund at Work Votre Fonds en fiducie pour l’Environnement au travail

  4. Why Work Together? • Global issues are/will affect all of us – climate change, peak oil, poverty, economic crises. • Sustainability issues do not end at municipal boundaries. • Work together to create efficiencies. • Have a bigger voice at provincial table.

  6. Steering Committee Mission Statement Tantramar 2040 will gather the resources and imagination of its communities to plan and take action on sustainability, ensuring the region’s collective environmental, economic, and socio-cultural wellbeing.

  8. Tantramar 2040 Process • Workshop #1 (September 2010) - Identifying Issues and Opportunities • Workshop #2 (November 2010) - Focusing on Priorities • Discussions (Feb/March 2011) - Action Planning 4. From Planning to Implementation (March 2011)

  9. Workshop #1 - Review • 36 participants in September at Cape Jourimain • Brainstormed sustainability topics • Identified almost 40 issues • 7 priority topics narrowed down and discussed in small groups.

  10. Workshop #2 - Review • 39 people attend the session in November in Dorchester (Swisscot Tea Rooms) • Held discussions on 8 priority topics that can be addressed at the regional level (2 rounds of 4 discussions) Business Development Energy Bio-Regional Planning Food Social Supports Transportation Infrastructure (Coastal) Water

PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABILITY - TNS • Reduce or eliminate use of natural materials that create pollution (e.g., fossil fuels) • Reduce or eliminate use of man-made materials that create pollution (e.g., chemicals and plastics) • Eliminate overuse or destruction of nature and natural resources (e.g., clear cutting, floodplain development) • Stop contributing to activities/actions that undermine people’s ability to meet their basic needs (e.g., unhealthy working conditions, purchasing items produced in sweat shops).
