WOD Groups • You will be writing your next essay in a group. • IDEA GENERATORS (2) will be the students who will give the scribe ideas. • SCRIBE will write down the ideas of the idea generators before everyone writes the agreed upon ideas on their own pre-writing sheet. • SPEAKER will share what work they have done with the teacher/class. • ***You will shift your role to the right after each paragraph is written.

  2. WOD Prompt • Get out your annotated Robles article • Create an argument identifying twovalues that you believe Anthony Robles displays through his life achievements using examples from the text (cite using specific quotes). Do you believe these values should be regarded as important to have in life?

  3. What is your opinion? Write your thesis statement • With your group, identify two values from the article • Create a thesis statement using the T+0+R2 formula. • Topic + Opinion + Reasons (2) • For example, “Value 1 and Value 2 is (or is not) important in life because Reason #1 and Reason #2.”

  4. Hook ‘Em! • Create a hook/s for the first sentence/s of your introductory paragraph. • Ask a thought provoking question (do not use “YOU!” or “I”!!) • OR….. • Use a quote • An interesting fact/statistic

  5. Elaborate…. • Describe why reason #1 is important. • Describe why reason #2 is important. • Your intro. Should be around 4 sentences.

  6. Body Paragraph 1 • First sentence in the first body paragraph should correspond with the first reason given in your thesis statement. • Use quotes from the article to support your reason (concrete details). • Add your own commentary based on the quote • Add another quote • Add one more sentence of commentary

  7. Body Paragraph 2 • Similarly, your second body paragraph should correspond with your second reason. • Give concrete details (quotes) to support your second reason • Add your own commentary about the quote • Add another quote • Add more commentary

  8. Conclusion • This paragraph needs to only be around 3 sentences. • Restate your thesis statement IN A DIFFERENT WAY. DO NOT JUST REPEAT your thesis statement!!!! Change around the order and use different words. • Leave the reader with a sense of closure and a thought-provoking statement. Leave the reader thinking about what they value and why it is important.
