Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) – Quick Start Comparison BDD and Quick Start allows Service members to apply for VA disability compensation prior to separation, retirement, or release from active duty or demobilization/deactivation BDD Requirements Must be received by VA 60-180 days prior to separation/retirement Must complete an application for Compensation and or Pension Must have a known separation date, retirement, release from active duty or demobilization/deactivation date Must submit service treatment records Must complete all phases of VA/DoD medical exam before departing point of separation Goal: Decisions within 60 days of release from Active Duty Quick Start Requirements Must be received by VA 1-59 days prior to separation/retirement Must complete and application for Compensation or Pension Must have known separation, retirement, release from active duty or demobilization/deactivation date Must submit service treatment records Service member is contacted by VA to scheduled medical exam Allows NG & Reserves to file claim during demobilization briefings (continue claim process after returning home Goal: Have benefits payments begin more quickly
