  2. WHAT IS INDIAN CURRENCY ? The Indian currency is called the Indian Rupee (INR) and the coins are called paisa. One Rupee consists of 100 paisa. The word Rupee came from the Sanskrit word "rupya" which means silver coin. 

  3. The Indian rupee symbol '₹' (officially adopted in 2010) is derived from the Devanagari (Sanskrit language) consonant "र" (Ra) and the Latin letter "R". The first series of coins with the rupee symbol was launched on 8 July 2011.

  5. Why is there Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait on every note? The Mahatma Gandhi Series of banknotes are issued by the Reserve Bank of India as the legal tender of Indian rupee.   11. Himalayas The magnificent Himalayan ranges are shown in ₹100 note. Himalayas are natural barriers for the cold wind coming from north, foreign country army, etc. thereby increasing its importance.

  12. Dandi march A still of DandiMarch is printed on ₹500 note. It was an important part of the Indian independence movement. It was a direct action campaign of tax resistance and nonviolent protest against the British salt monopoly in colonial India, and triggered the wider Civil Disobedience Movement. 

  13. Satellite, computer, oil industry The Satellite, Computer, oil industry shown in ₹1000 note depict the advancements going on in India. Why is oil refinery shown in ₹1000 note? India produces about 2.1 million barrels of oil. By exporting 825,600 bbl./day (2009 est.) India becomes the 23rd exporter of oil.
