Personal • Factors that are specific to you as an individual. • Examples: age, gender, heredity
Predisposing • Predisposing factors are those that can help you move from precontemplation to contemplation and are associated with the questions: “Am I able?” and “Is it worth it?” • Examples: knowledge, beliefs, enjoyment, attitudes, self-confidence
Enabling • Once a decision has been made to make a lifestyle change, enabling factors help you follow through with the change. • Examples: self-management skills, access, environment
Reinforcing • Reinforcing factors help you stay at the maintenance stage. • Examples: family, peers, health professionals
