  4. Worked as an art director for several magazines in New Zealand and overseas. Writing and illustrating books for many years. Many of them celebrate his love to the natural world.

  8. Earthmoving machines arrive at their little patch of bush in North Auckland. A family of kiwi and their brave friend Mickey decide that they must find a new home where they cannot be disturbed by humans.

  9. Thus begins their long trek to the GreatForest

  10. Catch ferries, walk through shopping centres and spend time on a farm. Aided by their bird friends.

  11. They walk out of the small towns and are being attacked by their enemies (ferrets). While Mickey is asking a falcon for help, the kiwi kicked with their strong legs and claws, also stabbed with their beaks.

  12. Just as seemed that the kiwi would be beaten, Mickey returned with the falcon. All the ferrets are killed. Unfortunately, auntie had taken the worst of the attack, she died.

  13. My Reflection and Feeling At the beginning of the story, I was looking forward to the climax and the ending.

  14. I thought that every kiwi could go to the Great Forest safely.

  15. But when I found out that Auntie was dead after the attack, I felt sad but also surprised as it was not in my expectation.

  16. When the Kiwi family finally met with the other Kiwi in the Great forest, I was touched. • I knew that Auntie would be pleased with it if she was there as they didn’t work for nothing. She would love that as well.

  17. Humans should not destroy the animals’ habitat as they need a home like we do. We should not be so selfish but love the natural world and wildlife.

  18. This book is written and illustrated in comic style with a strong environmental theme that makes it to be both funny and informative.

  19. More about Kiwi! • hairlike feathers • almost non-existent wings • excellent sense of smell • unlike any other bird • Found only in New Zealand • New Zealand’s national birds • New Zealanders are commonly referred to as "kiwis".
