What is the Earnest? • Of Hebrew origin [H6162]; a pledge, that is, part of the purchase money or property given in advance as security for the rest: - earnest. • Money which in purchases is given as a pledge or down payment that the full amount will subsequently be paid. • Promise to Pay 1000 Silver Dollars – Give 2 Chickens? • Promise to Pay 100 Chickens – Give a Bag of Apples? • From G4973; to stamp (with a signet or private mark) for security or preservation (literally or figuratively); by implication to keep secret, to attest. (set a, set to) seal up, stop.
