Why Greek & Latin Roots are Useful And how you’ll demonstrate your knowledge of them :-)
Reason #1 – Reading Comprehension Knowing how to break words down into roots and knowing what some of those roots mean helps you understand what you’re reading. If you don’t understand 90% of the words on a page, you won’t understand the text. (And your definitely won’t enjoy it!)
Reason #2 – Writing • Learning Greek & Latin roots will help increase your vocabulary this lets you say what you want the way you want to say it. • Helps with spelling. Roots tend to have consistent spellings and the way they fit together follows a regular pattern know the roots you’ll know how to spell it!
Reason #3 – English is COOL! • Do you love your country? Do you love your language? Well, what do you really know about the English language? • It can be kinda fun . . . If you don’t necessarily love reading and writing, working with Greek & Latin roots can tap into the more logical/mathematical side of your brain. If you like puzzles, you’ll probably like roots!
Reason #4 – Improves test scores • Knowing about Greek & Latin roots will help you find synonyms, antonyms, decipher the meaning of words and even follow directions better.
