About AFEI • A non-profit association for corporate and individual members. • Provides a framework for collaboration between government and industry. • Common goals: • Advance enterprise integration, • network centric operations, and • world-class electronic business practices for industries and governments around the globe. • The DoD CIO has turned to AFEI to be its conduit for policy and strategy input from industry through jointly chartered working groups. • The Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Business Transformation has requested a partnership with AFEI for the purpose of garnering industry input on transforming DoD business operations. • AFEI working groups formed under these partnerships provide the opportunity for industry to influence policy, shape the future and secure the nation. • AFEI is a member of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) family of associations.
Existing AFEI Working Groups • Data Sharing and Services Strategy (DS3) • Information Assurance (IAWG) • Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) • Architecture and Standards • Wireless and Communications • Commercial Acquisition Practices (CAP)
A New AFEI Working Group:Information Sharing • Sponsor: Paul Grant, Information Assurance Executive, Office of DoD CIO • Scope: • Information Sharing is defined as making information available to participants (people, processes, or systems). • Information Sharing includes the cultural, managerial, and technical behaviors by which one participant leverages information held or created by another participant.
Initial Tasking for theWorking Group • Focus on the question of implementing Federated Information Governance in a large scale enterprise. • Next Steps • Bring together a small group of government and industry experts to discuss a framework for information sharing and governance. • Focus on definitions, rules for information sharing, building trust, mechanism (infrastructure, standards, etc.)
Working with DAS • We want to coordinate with DAS to: • Share Information • Solicit input and recommendations • Coordinate recommendations where it makes sense.
