  3. nebula • Stars are born in giant clouds of gas and dust called nebula. • The article I read in the science magazine was about a nebula, a large cloud of gas and dust in outer space. • Definition – glowing clouds of gas and dust amidst the clouds.

  4. variable • These stars are called variable stars because at times they appear bright and at other times they are dim. • The colors of a mood rings stone are variable. They are supposed to change when the wearer is happy, sad, or angry. • Definition – likely to change

  5. particles • But a few supernovas leave a small, tightly packed ball of particles called a neutron star. • The tiniest particle of dust makes Sue sneeze. • Definition – very small pieces or portions of something.
