  2. Description GOOD MORNING! For most of my life, I was not a morning person. It took me a long time to wake up and find my bearings. I wouldn’t find my groove until around noon. Nights were when I was most creative. The ideas came to me and I could easily stay up late, writing and dreaming. Then something shifted, and I started to enjoy my mornings. I find the stillness before the day begins to be a time of contemplation, silence, and beauty. I love the way the morning light plays with the sky. I love the feeling of the world waking up and the start of a new day. Beginnings always feel fresh and exciting. Each morning holds such promise. In this book, I want to provide you with encouragement, inspiration, and something to think about each day. Mornings are a time of expansion. As we fill our lungs with air and move our limbs, we go from the state of rest and sleep to being fully awake. I thought about readers who are tired and discouraged, as well as readers who jump out of bed ready to seize the day. I wanted these passages to bring balance and mindfulness to you. No matter where you find yourself on the “morning person” scale, I hope you find something in these pages that inspires and moves you. May your mornings be a time of mindful solitude. -- Emily Silva January 1 START TODAY W ITH A N OPEN HEART and fresh eyes. Today has no mistakes in it. Embrace this clean slate by breathing in this present moment of newness, of possibility, and of hope. Nothing but what is happening right now matters. Yesterday is over and today stands before you without expectation. Take a moment to offer gratitude for this day. You have the power to choose the energy you bring to the day. April 1 LIFE HOLDS SO MANY SIMPLE PLEASURES! To wake up and take a breath, to hear the lovely sounds of the morning, to feel the warmth of the rising sun, to smell fresh coffee and toasted bread—all pockets of delight that each day brings. Our senses are coming alive as we awaken. Take a moment to be grateful for each sense and notice what you are feeling as you open your eyes to welcome the day. Take in the experience of feeling truly alive and grateful. September 1 ONE OF THE MOST TRANQUIL times in a city is earlyin the morning. December 1 EVERY DAY W E HAVE A CHOICE about how we want to feel and what we want to do. Choice requires consistent awareness of how we are feeling and how we want to change until it becomes habit. That’s why each day we can choose to take a step toward forming new habits. Choose a theme each month to create a new habit. Because habits are formed with time and practice, imagine the
