  2. Table of Contents The National League was created first and makes up most of the MLB. most of the MLB. The National League and American League are known as rivals. Created because the National League was such a success.

  3. American League vs. National League • The ( MLB ) or Major League baseball is separated into two groups. • There is an American League and a National League. • When the American League and the National League play each other it is known as a rivalry game. • An example of this is the New York Yankees vs. the Boston Red Sox.

  4. The main difference in the American League and the National League is that, “American League uses the designated hitter rule to replace pitchers during at-bats, and the National League does not.” ( Brinson ) AMERICAN LEAGUE VS. NATIONAL LEAGUE New York Yankees designated hitter, Travis Hafner.

  5. American League • “ The American League was created by Ban Johnson.” ( Google ) • The American League was created after the National League. • “ This League was created because the National League was so successful.” ( Brinson )

  6. American League • The American League has a tenth player unlike the National League. • “ This extra player, called the designated hitter ( DH ), bats in place of the pitcher.” ( World Book ) Ban Johnson the creator of the American League.

  7. National League • “ The National League was formed in 1876, is the older of the two leagues that make up the professional Major League Baseball organization in the United States and Canada.” ( Brinson ) • Unlike the American League the National League does not use a designated hitter.

  8. National League • “The National League was formed by Albert Goodwill Spalding and William Hulbert.” (Google) Albert Spalding the creator of the National League William Hulbert the creator of the National League

  9. Conclusion • The baseball Leagues have had a good impact on people because it gives them something to look forward to and enjoy. These Leagues also opens up many jobs for the unemployed. I still wonder what persuaded Albert Goodwill Spalding and William Hulbert to create the National League.
