Getting an internship • A few things have changed since last quarter to getting an internship through the VAC. • Point system • ACU 101 now required
ACU 101 • We will require ACU 101 for internships this quarter. Animal Care and Use 101 • Online course- Send an email to the email on the page to get an LMS account • http://safetyservices.ucdavis.edu/tr/lmsL/acu Once finished with the course- attach the completion certificate to your internship application.
Resumes and applications • Things to remember for the application and resumes: • 1 page!
Resumes and applications • Prioritize your experience • Write what you did on your resume- Do not just write that you worked in a clinic for 2 years, tell us what you did there. • Write all past VAC internships
Resumes and Applications • Always remember to check the times you put that you are available • Try to be available for more than one time if you can.
Information on internships • Easy hints to be competitive for an internship
Internal medicine • newest addition to the offered internships. • You must have completed another small animal service rotation.
Small animal surgery • You must have observed a surgery!
Community medicine • Communication and conversational skills are very important. • Learn quickly • MUST have animal handling experience
Outpatient Medicine • Must have completed Community Medicine! • If you have already done Community Medicine apply for outpatient!
Community dentistry • Must have previously completed Community Medicine
Client services • Need to be comfortable talking to clients, and have strong communication skills.
Dermatology • Wiling to help out • Vet students will not generally ask for help- if you are there- offer to help!
Small animal emergency • Can see some serious cases with lots of blood, need to be comfortable seeing that • Can be lots of euthanasias
Necropsy • Willing to immerse yourself with unfamiliar knowledge • You will be seeing lots of dead animal bodies- need to be comfortable
Behavior • Try to have more than one day available if applying • Easy to work with- you will be observing appointments.
