Journal Prompt #1 According to a study done by Janet Elsea, in the first four minutes of meeting a stranger our understanding of that person is based on three factors: appearance, 55%; tone of voice, 38%; what the person is saying, 7%. Therefore, the way people look affect the way people act and the way others perceive them. Why do you think this is the case? Journal entry must be at least 50 words, be well thought out, and must be written in complete sentences.
Costume Vocabulary • Hand Sewing Needles – Different sizes and lengths; used to sew by hand. • Seam Ripper – Used to take out sewing mistakes. • Sewing Gauge – 6” long with slide, helps you mark a hem or smaller amounts of fabric. • Straight Pins – Used to hold pattern to fabric or 2 layers of fabric together. Must lay flat on fabric. • Shears – Used for heavy duty cutting of fabric. One handle larger than other. • Tracing Paper – Waxy coated paper which transfers pattern markings. • Tracing Wheel – Handle & metal wheel with teeth, used for tracing.
Costume Vocabulary • Costume – Clothes worn by one playing a part or dressing up in disguise. • Period – A specific time frame in history. • Silhouette – the outline of an item; referenced to the period. • Costume Plot – a list of every character and costume for each scene of a play. • Costume Parade - walking onstage in full costume to determine comfort, movement and proper lighting.
Journal Prompt #2 Think about your favorite outfit. Briefly describe the entire outfit, including shoes, hat, jewelry, etc. What does this outfit say about you? Why is it your favorite outfit? Journal entry must be at least 50 words, be well thought out, and must be written in complete sentences. Please include a sketch of the described outfit.

Good Will Hunting Day #1 • Goals for Today • Select character and have approved by Mrs. Leffel • Complete Costumes Activity Sheet for our character • Begin Character Research and start on Animoto project • For next class you need to bring the following: • Found materials (old shirts, sheets, etc.) that you can repurpose for your costume. • Paints, glitter, etc. that you can use to embellish or change the color of your costume. • A PLAN! • I will provide thread, needles and scissors, but that is it! You cannot use any materials that you find around the classroom. • If you show up without something to work on and with then you are falling behind and doing a disservice to your group
Good Will Hunting Daily Tips for Success • Set specific goals daily. Strong goals include: 1) Cut out fabric for robe, and begin pinning. 2)Come up with a plan to create hat. 3) Paint spots on necktie. Weak goals include: 1) Get started on costume 2) Make costume 3) Cut stuff • Accomplish your goals. Keep track of the time you have, and use it wisely. The more you are able to finish in class the less you will need to do at home. • Contribute to your groups success. Everyone should be working on something. Next Friday all of the following are due: costume, cost worksheet, journal with research, color rendering, animoto project, receipts and costume worksheet, as well as your fully completed goals sheet. There is enough to do that everyone should be working throughout class.
Good Will Hunting Day #5 • This is your final day to work on the project in class! • Don’t forget to complete your budget sheet, attach receipts, finish your sketch, label your sketch, work on your animoto project, and put together your folder to turn in. • This project is due at the beginning of class on Friday, no exceptions. You will have 5-10 minutes to put your costume on once class begins, then we will present. • Once you have completed your animoto project, you will need to go to wiki.friscoisd.org/users/leffell and log-in using your student ID and password. From there you need to scroll to the Good Will Hunting Link post and click the link. You will be prompted to put in your group information and your animoto URL. • Don’t forget, you need a minimum of 3 research pictures and 3 pictures from each stage of the project, from shopping to completion!
