Paragraph writing (theme) • Paragraph Construction • Remember that a paragraph has three essential parts: • Topic/Intro Sentence: This sentence should be the overall main idea, focus and/or claim of the paragraph you are about to write. It prepares the reader for what they are about to read. On the exam, there will be two choices: pick one to write about! • Body/Development Sentences: These sentences should explore, develop and/or explain what has been introduced through the topic sentence. This is where you will develop your premises and proofs with quotations from the short story. • Concluding Sentence: In general a concluding sentence restates the topic/intro using different words, possibly referencing specific points in the body.
