Summary of General Findings • Washington’s population is expected to reach 7 million by the end of 2014. • After 2015, migration is expected to serve as the main contributor to state population growth. • The 65 or older population is expected to double its size in twenty years. • By 2030, more than one of every five Washingtonians will be an elderly person. • The share of the population of working age will decline relative to the “dependent” population.

An Aging Population Means More People Need Support with Less People To Support Them The dependency ratio measures how many dependent persons (aged 0-17 and 65 and over) per one hundred working age people (aged 18-64)
