2012 MD#1 BI RESULTS (preliminary) LSWG 15-May-2012F.Roncarolo on behalf of BI team E. Bravin, A. Boccardi, S.Burger, E. Calvo, B. Dehning, J. Emery, A. Guerrero, T. Lefevre, J-J. Gras, R. Jones, A. Rabiller, M. Sapinski, R. Steinhagen, G.Trad T.Baer LSWG - 15-May-2012
2012 MD1 BI LSWG - 15-May-2012
BSRT Heating - Introduction • 2011 run: • Observed light spot displacing when going to high intensity • Suspect extraction mirror (support) heating deformation • 2011-2012 Xstmas Stop: • installed temperature probes outside view-port • 2012 run: • Observed temperature increase correlated to spot displacement • Suspects: RF coupling (intensity, bunch length) , SR power (intensity, energy) • During physics fills • Short time between end of injection and start of the ramp • Difficult to disentangle beam intensity and energy dependence • 2012 MD1 • Stay longer at injection with intensity above 1e14 • No ramp • B1: extraction mirror OUT LSWG - 15-May-2012
Heating during physics fills • Correlation among • intensity • view port temperature • Light spot displacement Thermal inertia: No temperature equilibrium before start of the ramp LSWG - 15-May-2012
2012 MD1 - BEAM 2: RAMP vs NO RAMP Very little difference in temperature rise, could be related to bunch length rather than energy (see next slide) RF coupling heating? LSWG - 15-May-2012
2012 MD1 - BEAM 2: RAMP vs NO RAMP – BUNCH LENGTH Shorter bunches slightly faster heating (see previous slide) LSWG - 15-May-2012
B1 MIRROR OUT MIRROR OUT basically no heating Overall conclusion: will start detailed study (BI-ABP-RF) to study coupling impedance and need for mechanics modifications during LS1 LSWG - 15-May-2012
IR4 QUADS K-mod Aim: measure beta functions @ IR4 quads and extrapolate values @ WS,BSRT,BGI Analysis on-going. Here: PRELIMINARY RESULTS, to be checked with beta-beat team K quad G.Trad Qv Qh LSWG - 15-May-2012
IR4 QUADS K-mod - PRELIMINARY RESULTS, to be checked with beta-beat team Beam 1 Beam2 LSWG - 15-May-2012
K-mod IR5, BGI, Matching Monitor • K-MOD IR5 • modulate Q1.L1 while applying horizontal bumps to study BPMSW.1L5 offset and stability • Data being analyzed • K-mod is complementary to the RF-commutation switch based method tried today (http://elogbook.cern.ch/eLogbook/event_viewer.jsp?eventId=1562773more meas. in the next w months to have statistics) • BGI • observations with high intensity at injection • discovered 1 camera damaged changed during TS1 • Matching Monitor • experiments abandoned due to lack of time + electronics problems fixed during TS1 LSWG - 15-May-2012
