Buying Clothes • Before buying a new garment try it on to judge fit and appearance
Trying on Clothing • One of the most important things to do when trying on a garment is to stretch, sit down, and bend over while wearing the garment
Clothing durability • Durability of a garment is determined by the quality of construction and fabric used
Fabric Types • Natural – made from plants or animals • Man-made- created by using chemicals in a laboratory • Blends- mixing different types of fibers together, often combining natural & man-made into one fabric
Natural Fibers • Fiber from plant and animal sources: cotton silk wool
Silk • Silk fibers are produced by a worm!
Wool • Wool is sheared from a sheep & spun into fibers
Cotton • Cotton comes from the cotton plant
Man Made Fibers • In general, synthetic fibers are created by forcing fiber forming chemicals through holes into the air, forming a thread. • Nylon • Polyester • Rayon • Acrylic
Blends • Blended fiber - two or more different types of staple fibers are twisted or spun together to form the yarn for the fabric
