  2. PHY Pre-proposal for PAC common discovery mode Tae-Joon Park*, Jae-Min Ahn**, Keun Hyung Lee*, Wun-Cheol Jeong*, Chang-Sub Shin*, Hoyong Kang* *ETRI, **Chungnam National Univ

  3. Common discovery mode for PAC • Common discovery mode for • PD finding • Exchange PD capability • Peer-to-peer connection setup • To support interoperability between PAC devices regardless of frequency bands • Discovery mode should be unique in PAC • Optimized for peer-discovery

  4. Requirements of Common discovery mode • Low HW implementation complexity • RF chain • ADC/DAC • Baseband • Simple and robust PHY • IPR free to reduce the debate for mandatory mode  requires well known and simple PHY • Robustness is more important than the transmission rate • Single mode (modulation type, rate, etc.)

  5. Messages over Common discovery mode • Beacon • Broadcast PD capabilities • Connection request • IDs • With the capabilities of requesting PD • Connection acknowledge • IDs • With the connection mode

  6. Possible framing structure • Preamble • Header • Message type • Length of PSDU • Header check sequence • PSDU Preamble Header PSDU

  7. Possible modulation type • Binary FSK • On-off Keying • Differential BPSK • Simple receiver structure with non-coherent demodulation • Moderate performance

  8. Pros and cons for modulation types

  9. Encoding • Error detection and retransmission only • Reducing the decoder complexity • Simple CRC would be OK • Ex: 8bit CRC

  10. Preamble • Purpose of preamble • Signal detection • AGC • synchronization • AFC : frequency synchronization • Symbol synchronization • Frame synchronization • Etc. • Preamble sequence candidates • CAZAC sequence • M-sequence • Barker code • Gold code • Etc.

  11. Example of transmitter structure Add CRC Scramble MUX PSDU information To transceiver Modulation And/or Spreading Add CRC Scramble Header information Preamble

  12. PHY parameters • Band candidates • Sub-1GHz • ISM : 2.4GHz, 5GHz • 6-10GHz • Other licensed band • Data rate and Bandwidth • 50Kbps, 200KHz is enough for implementing common communication mode
