Definition of a Healthy, Active Lifestyle A lifestyle that contributes positively to PHYSICAL, MENTAL and SOCIAL well being and includes regular exercise and physical activity

Roles and Required Qualities • Performer • Leader (e.g. coach, manager) • Officiating (e.g. referee/umpire) What do they need to do? What Qualities do each of these have?

Participation Pyramid Remember the 4 stages: • Feel PositiveaboutPhysical Education • Foundation, Participate, Performance, Elite • Don’t get the 2 P’s mixed up! Remember you have to participatebefore you can perform!
Be able to describe each stage: • Foundation • Introductory stage • Bottom of the pyramid • Contains the most people • Where people start and try skills e.g. school • Standard of performance is at its lowest.
Be able to describe each stage: • Participation • You progress to this stage when you CHOOSE to continue with sport e.g. joining an after-school club • Fewer people at this stage than the foundation stage • Sport is at a slightly higher level than foundation.
Be able to describe each stage: • Performance • When a player is good at their sport • Fewer people continue to this stage • Non-compulsory • Competitive • People train to get better • Skill level improved by coaching • E.g. club/county level
Be able to describe each stage: • Elite Stage • Also known as the excellence stage • Very few performers • Top level of performance e.g. national and international • Requires a huge amount of dedication, determination and skill
