Assessment and Unfair Practice by Sue Annetts, 23/9/13 Annetts@Cardiff.ac.uk
Why is assessment important? Assessment drives learning: it tells us what we’re good at and where / how we can improve
What you can expect from SOHCS • Assessments are scrutinised internally and externally • Marking criteria and guidance will be made available in a timely way • We have procedures to maximise the consistency of marking • We aim to provide individual constructive written feedback on summative assignments within four working weeks
What we expect from students • To read the school handbook and assessment guidance on learning central as a lot of initial queries can be answered by doing this.

Unfair Practice What is it? • Essentially, it’s using the ideas or words of others as your own • Can be classed as plagiarism, collusion or exam misconduct.
