Healthy for Life–– This category includes programs that proactively improve health and wellness by fostering transformational change in individual or community behaviors. Healthy Jewish Community–This category includes programs that support social or human services that may be unrelated to healthcare but that foster or maintain a vibrant Jewish community

  3. KC Beans&Greens Mission • Create opportunities for local residents with food assistance to buy healthy, locally grown foods from local farmers in Greater Kansas City • Program helps: • Lower Income Shoppers • Local Farmers • Local Economy • Improved Public Health • “Win – Win” for Everyone!

  4. How Does Beans&Greens Achieve its Mission? Farmers Markets Receive EBT Machines Markets Now Accept: Cash + Food Assistance + Match 16 Farmers Markets (12 MO and 4 KS) 8 Mobile Sites (5 MO and 3 KS) Beans&Greens Matches Tokens are used to make purchases at Markets

  5. How is Beans&Greens Helping Local Farmers? Total SNAP + SFMNP + Match Sales to Farmers $340,000 Projected for 2012

  6. Total Served Grew 145% from 2010 to 2011 • Other impacts: • Increased financial stability for local farmers • Prompted the creation of 3, new neighborhood gardens • Stimulated the development of a volunteer cooking corps • Recycled Kansas City currency
