  4. Scholarship Information

  5. Coca-Cola Scholarship The application is now open. Merit based scholarship. Applicants should have strong leadership skills, GPA 3.0, extracurricular activities, including community service. Scholarships range from $10,000 to $20,000. • Applicants must apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org

  6. BigSun Scholarship • All student athletes are eligible for this award • Must be a senior attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in a sport at that institution or community • www.bigsunathletics.com for more info • Deadline: June 22, 2012 • Amount of Award: $500

  7. NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program • Ranging from $1000-$12,000 will be awarded 100 seniors from 50 states • Winners are selected by leadership skills, academic record, volunteer work, etc.

  8. NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program • Students CANNOT apply; must be NOMINATED by their high school. • 1 student may be nominated per high school • Nominees will be in 20% of their class

  9. NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program • Students with leadership skills and are not in 20% can still be nominated • Please see Ms. Venega in Guidance if interested • Deadline for prescreen application is November 11, 2011

  10. Selective Service • If you are a man ages 18-25 and living in the US, then you must register with Selective Service. According to law a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. • Register at any Post Office or online at http://ww.ss.gov

  11. Foot Locker Athletes • Applicants must be currently involve in high school sports, intramural sports, or community based sports. • GPA requirement is 3.0 and plan to attend a four-year university in the fall of 2012, be born after 9/1/1991, and a permanent legal resident. • Go to: www.dosomething.org/footlocker • NOMINATION DEADLINE: December 19, 2011 • APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 9, 2011

  12. College Application Week • November 14-18, 2011 Last year… 5 days 116 school districts 470 high schools 44,000 applications 1 common dream achieved

  13. Free College Application Week • Seniors should identify beforehand the colleges to which they wish to apply. • Seniors should also complete in advance as much of the college admission applications as possible.

  14. Free College Application Week • Lab 408 will be available for students to work with Guidance in completing their actual admissions applications. Seniors must sign up before Tuesday, November 15th in order to participate in Free College Application Week. Use of lab only during non-core course periods.

  15. SAT & ACT Announcement • Seniors and Juniors: If you eat free or reduced lunch you may be eligible for a fee waiver for the SAT Test and College Applications. See your Guidance Counselor for information.

  16. STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS!! You will always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

  17. Teacher Cadet Food and Clothing Drive • Please bring coats, jackets, sweaters, scarfs, mittens, gloves, hats to Ms. Marie in Room 811. Canned or non-perishable items can be dropped off here. • HELP MAKE SOMEONE’S HOLIDAYS BLESSED BY CARING FOR THOSE IN NEED.

  18. Breakfast Buddies • Anyone else who would like to join is welcome. • Applications are due before the end of the first week of December, turn in at Room 811. • Will restart in January for 2nd semester.

  19. Breakfast Buddies Memo!!! Jacoby Hammonds, Taley Strickland, Morgan Chavis, and Jeremiah Jacobs… Please turn in your forms to Ms. Marie ASAP! You cannot go without the form!!! Also, you must sign in at the front desk no later than 8:30 am.

  20. STUDENT OF EXCELLENCE • Student of Excellence applications for ALL grade levels are available in guidance and are due back to the counselor on November 18, 2011.

  26. Dressing for Success • Teachers are encouraged to offer classroom incentives to students who “Dress for Success.” Each week a student will be randomly selected by administration to receive a $10 gift card to www.MyLocker.net for the purchase of Purnell Swett gear.

  27. SAT & ACT DEADLINES • December 10, 2011 ACT Test is November 4, 2011. Late fee required date is November 5-18, 2011. • Students may register online for the SAT/ACT Test or pick up an application in Guidance.

  28. HOSA Club • Anyone interested in joining HOSA please pay $20 to Sue Patterson, Tina Hunt, or Tyra Moore.

  30. PSHS Swim Team! • It is not too late! Any male or female interested in joining the PSHS Swim Team this year. Please see Ms. Waite in the chorus room.

  33. SENIORS—Just a Reminder: • The Principals Leadership Award Scholarship is due in Guidance Friday, November 18, 2011.

  34. Seniors interested in taking the compass test for any Community College in the state of NC need to sign up in the guidance office. The first 23 students will be tested on February 7, 2012 @ 8:30am. Transportation will be provided to RCC. For additional information, see Ms. Venega in guidance.

  35. ATTENTION SENIORS • Seniors planning on going on the Senior Trip: • The first deposit deadline has been extended until Friday, November 18. 15 seats need to be filled!! • Please see Ms. Demetrice in Guidance for more info. 

  36. Attention Seniors: • Friday, November 18th, 2011 during 2nd period will be the last day to register for your FAFSA pin#. If you have no complete your pin #, please come to 408 lab. • If you have any questions, please see Ms. Venega in guidance.

  37. Attention Seniors, if you have been awarded any scholarships please bring in your letter to Guidance.

  38. Working Seniors: • Any Seniors working after school, please contact Ms. Harris in Room 210. You might be entitled to a unit of CREDIT toward High School Graduation.

  39. Seniors— The scholarship sheet #2 is available online on Purnell Swett’s Web Site under (Guidance) Dept. Also a few copies will be located in Guidance.

  42. To the Junior Class: Student of Excellence applications for 11th grade students are now available in guidance. Deadline to turn in application please see your 11th grade counselor.

  44. 10th and 11th Grade Students • If you are interested in taking the Teacher Cadet class next year, you must sign up in guidance this semester. • Must have: 3.0 GPA, two letters of recommendation and be selected from the interview committee

  45. Teacher Cadet • If you are interested in the education field (to include teachers, counselors, administrators, social workers or coaches) this class will help to develop a better understanding of the role they play.
