What is Jailbreaking? • Jailbreaking is the process of removing the limitationsthat Apple put on a device running the iOS operatingsystem through the use of software exploits, and in some cases through the use of hardware exploits. • It is a simple process to complete • Not illegal • Does have implications (voiding the warranty etc)

  3. Devices able to run iOS 6 & can be ‘jailbroken’

  4. 3 Steps to a jailbreak • Save SHSH blobs • Save current firmware version • Jailbreak device

  5. Saving SHSH blobs • A jargon term for the small piece of data that is a partof Apple’s signature system for when a device goes through an update or a restore. • Saving your blobs allows you to restore your deviceif the jailbreak goes wrong, you want to remove it orApple releases a new software version (ie. iOS6.5/7) • Simple to save your blobs, but a crucial part of the process • To save these blobs, you need a program called TinyUmbrella.

Saving Current Firmware • The website http://ios.e-lite.org/allows you to download the latestfirmware for your Apple Device. • It is vitally important to downloadthe right firmware for your device. • Doingthisnowwill stop hassle in thefutureifthedownloadisn’tavailable. • Itwill be a large file and youshouldstoreitwithyour SHSH blobs • I wouldsuggestbacking-up yourdevicewith iTunes at thispoint.

  7. The actual Jailbreak • You will need the ‘evasi0n’ jailbreak program from;www.evasi0n.com • Download the right version for your machine

  8. Once installed, the process is simple. • Load the program, plug in your handset and click“Jailbreak” • Do not touch the device whilst it is going through the process. • You may need to press an app that appears on the phone if required.

  9. So what now? • Congratulations. You have broken free from Apple’s limitations. • Using the new app “Cydia” on your device, you can install further apps that alter your experience on the device. • Themes, Apps, Tweaks, Utilities, Widgets & loads more!
