Who Is the BAAQMD? • Created in 1955 by California Legislature. • Jurisdiction from the California Health and Safety Code. • Regulate emissions to the environment from stationary sources including asbestos renovation and demolition. • Currently our status is non-attainment for Ozone so the focus of rules is primarily on Volatile Organic Compounds or VOC’s

An Inspection • Review plant inspection materials for district permitted facilities • Perform inspection • Take samples when needed • Document any non-compliance with violation notice(s) • Work with facility to ensure full compliance with District regulations

Solvent Cleaning Operations • BAAQMD Regulation 8, Rule 16 • Parts cleaner or wipe cleaning • Item being cleaned • Type and amount of solvent used • >20 gal/yr used solvent needs a permit • VOC content of the solvent being used • One cleaner with a solvent VOC of 50 g/l or less does not need a permit
Gasoline Dispensing Operations • BAAQMD Regulation 8, Rule 7 • Both retail or non-retail dispensers • Ripped or broken dispensing equipment causing vapor and/or liquid leaks • When gas delivered must have two hose vapor recovery hookup • Current tank and nozzle source testing • No hold open latches
Asbestos Activities • BAAQMD Regulation 11, Rule 2 • RACM-regulated asbestos containing material • 1% asbestos and friable or being made friable • Renovation or Demolition Notification • RACM removal greater than 100ft (linear or square) • All demolitions • All structures including single-family dwellings • Proper removal including wetting, containment, and HEPA negative air filtration • RACM waste sealed, labeled, and properly disposed of at a waste disposal site
