  1. Finishing the Race Well Cecil Ang Sunday Service 17 Jun 2012

  2. Our Mission Statement To be a people that have a personal relationship with God, reaching out to the lost with a passion to minister to their felt needs and bring them to the fellowship of the family and to equip them for ministry in the church.

  3. The Race “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Heb 12:1-2 (NKJV)

  4. Ending a Race “The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.” Eccl 7:8 (NIV) “Pride goes before destruction,a haughty spirit before a fall.” Pr 16:18 (NIV)

  5. Journey of Faith “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” Rom 12:3 (NKJV) “When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such greatfaith, not even in Israel!” Lk 7:9 (NKJV)

  6. Journey of Faith “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Rev 3:15-16 (NIV) “Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me …” 2 Tim 4:10 (NASB)

  7. How can we increase our faith? “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Rom 10:17 (NKJV)

  8. How can we increase our faith? 3“If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.” 5The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” 6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you. Lk 17:3-6 (NIV)

  9. How can we increase our faith? 7 “Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? 8 Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? 9 Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’” Lk 17:7-10 (NIV)

  10. What does it mean to finish well? Percentage of good kings = 20% Percentage that started and finished well = 7.5% “Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done.” 1 Kg 15:11 (NIV)

  11. What does it mean to finish well? “At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the Lord, he delivered them into your hand” … In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the Lord, but only from the physicians.” 2 Chron 16:7-8,12 (NIV)

  12. What does it mean to finish well? “Hezekiah trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. He held fast to the LORD and did not cease to follow him; he kept the commands the LORD had given Moses. And the LORD was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook.” 2 Kg 18:5-7 (NIV) “Josiah removed all the detestable idols from all the territory belonging to the Israelites, and he had all who were present in Israel serve the Lord their God. As long as he lived, they did not fail to follow the Lord, the God of their ancestors.” 2 Chron 34:33 (NIV)

  13. What does it mean to finish well? “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Tim 4:7-8 (NIV) “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” Jn 19:30 (NIV)

  14. Does God want us to finish well? “His master replied, ‘Well done, goodand faithfulservant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” Mt 25:23 (NIV)

  15. Does the devil want us to finish well? Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Mt 4:8-9 (NIV) “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” Jn10:10a (NIV)

  16. Does the devil want us to finish well? • Doubt & unbelief • Affliction & persecution • Worry of the world • Deceitfulness of riches

  17. How can I finish well? • Remain faithful to God “He (Hezekiah) did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.” 2 Chron 29:2 (NIV) “Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the years Jehoiada the priest instructed him.” 2 Kg 12:2 (NIV)

  18. How can I finish well? “But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear – hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.” Jude 1:20-23 (NIV)

  19. How can I finish well? • Remain true to our calling “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep …” Act 13:36 (NIV) “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph 2:10 (NIV)

  20. How can I finish well? “For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.” Mt 25:35-36 (NASB)

  21. How can I finish well? • I have fought the good fight: prevail over the devil’s schemes • I have finished the race: remain true to God’s calling • I have kept the faith: remain faithful to God
