Tropical Rainforest • Today we are going to talk to you about the tropical rainforest. • A tropical rainforest must receive 1,700 to 2,000 mm of rain a year in order to be a rainforest.
Trees • It has been estimated that 25% of earths medicines we use come from trees in the rainforest. • 100 to 300 species of trees grow in the tropical rainforest. • The two main trees that grow in the rainforest are rosewood and mahogany.
Plants • 2,500 species of vines grow in the tropical rainforest. • Some plants produce edible fruits some are vanilla and avocadoes. • Some plants that grow in the Tropical rainforest are bamboo, moss, herbs, shrubs, orchids, and a variety of flowers.
Rainfall • The tropical rainforest receives 50-260 inches of rain each year. • Thunderstorms can occur 200 days in a year.
Temperature and Climate • The average temperature in a tropical rainforest is 70-90 degrees Fahrenheit or 20-25 degrees Celsius. • In the Tropical Rainforest winter is absent and only two seasons are present ( rainy and dry.) • The climate in the tropical rainforest is very humid because of all the rainfall.
Landforms • The tropical rainforest is made up of a few landforms that are quite unique. • Most of the tropical rainforest is lowlands or plains. • There also are a few waterfalls that flow there.
Insects • Insects make up the largest single group of animals that live in the rainforest. • Some of the insects in the rainforest are butterflies, mosquitos, camouflaged stick insects, and large colonies of ants.
Animals of the Tropical Rainforest • Scientist estimated that half of earth’s animals live in the Tropical rainforest. • Some adaptations that animals have are bright colors, living in trees, sharp patterns, large vocalizations, and diets on heavy fruits. • Some animals that live in the rainforest are: okapis, rhinoceroses, peacocks, toucans, elephants, tigers, sloths, and monkeys.
